Achari bharwa mirchi fry recipe is a simple, quick and easy side dish of pan fried green chillies stuffed with pickle spices. Typically we serve green chilli fry with simple meal like Dal-rice, Sambar-rice, Khichdi or Tahari. For me, it is an irresistible instant green chilli pickle to go with my meal. Here is how to make bharwa mirchi fry recipe step by step.
Whenever I want to eat simple but spicy food, mirchi fry is the condiment you can't go wrong with. So, if you to want enhance your simple meal spread, then green chilli fry has to be on the table.
The recipe is extremely easy as it does not involve any complicated method. It will take flat 20 minutes from start to finish. The chilli fry recipe has always been much appreciated by my family.
Being huge fan of green chillies or mirchi, apart from raw hari mirch, I try to find out different ways to eat them as much as I can. That beautiful blend of achari tadka and the spicy tangy stuffing within is undoubtedly a pure affection.

Important Tips to make best bharwa mirchi fry recipe
- I would recommend to use medium spicy chillies for this chilli fry recipe.
2. To reduce the spiciness, proceed with removing the seeds from both red and green chilies. (If you prefer spicier version then you can leave it as it is)
3. You can also use Jalapeño peppers to make this recipe.
4. Do not, forget to squeeze generous amount of lemon, as it give nice tangy taste to the chilli fry.
5. Do not overcook the chilies to soft and mushy. Leave a bit of crunch to avoid it getting soggy
6. Any kind of pickle based recipes works best when we use Mustard oil. So, I would highly recommend to use it. But, in case if it is not available in your region, then proceed with regular vegetable oil.
How long does the bharwa mirchi (chilli fry) stays?
This spicy fried chillies stays very well upto 3 weeks in a clean airtight container under refrigeration.

How to make Bharwa Mirchi Fry Recipe - Step by Step
To begin with, wash wipe and slit the green chilies, set it aside
Then, dry roast the dried red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds and black peppercorns, cool (photo 1)
Add the dry roasted spices and garlic in blender and blend it to coarse powder (photo 2 and 3)
In a bowl, mix together tamarind pulp, ground masala sand salt, mix well (photo 4)
Take one slit chilli and carefully stuff it with the prepared masala
Similarly, stuff all the slit chillies and set it aside.
Now, heat mustard oil in pan, until smoky. Reduce the heat low and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, nigella seeds, cumin seeds and fennel seeds, fry for few seconds until aromatic.
Increase the heat to high, add the stuffed chillies in the pan and gently toss. Cover and cook for 2-3 minutes or until they are just tender. Do not overcook or they may get soggy.
Finally, add red chilli powder and lemon juice, mix and cook for another 30 seconds.
Achari Bharwa mirchi fry is ready to serve.

Bharwa Mirchi Fry
Ingredients
- 12-13 Green chillies (Large sized)
- 3 tbsp Coriander seeds
- 2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 8-10 Black peppercorns
- 10 Cloves Garlic
- 6 Kashmiri Dried Red Chilies
- 3 tbsp Tamarind Pulp
- Salt as per taste
For tempering:
- 3 tbsp Mustard Oil
- ½ tsp Mustard seeds
- ½ tsp Fennel Seeds
- ½ tsp Nigella Seeds
- ¼ tsp Fenugreek Seeds
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Red Chilli Powder
- Juice of one lemon
Instructions

Notes
- If you prefer, you can use refined oil instead of mustard oil.
- To reduce the spiciness, you can discard the seeds form both red and green chillies.
- Generous squeeze of lemon on mirchi enhances the taste of the dish
