How to make lemon and ginger tea?
Bring water to a boil in a pan, pot or kettle.
Add sliced or grated ginger, reduce the heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes. You can simmer it for extra 5 minutes for stronger ginger flavor.
Switch off the heat, cover the pot and allow it to steep for another 4-5 minutes. This is optional but highly recommended for the most vibrant flavor.
Carefully, pour the ginger tea into serving cups using a strainer.
Add lemon juice, honey (or maple syrup / sugar) to sweeten the tea, and stir (I used cinnamon stick). Garnish with lemon slice and fresh mint, serve!

Expert Tips
- For a stronger flavor, hand grate fresh ginger instead of peeling and slicing.
- I prefer to leave the peel on the ginger. This keeps the most flavor and nutritional benefits. However, feel free to peel the ginger before grating or slicing, if you like!
- The longer the tea steeps, the stronger the taste will be. At a minimum the tea steeps for 5 minutes, but it can steep for up to 15 minutes total for maximum flavor and health benefits.
- Lemon honey ginger tea for cold and cough is always best when fresh, but, you can store the tea for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. However, the lemon and honey should be added fresh, when the liquid is hot and ready to serve.
Variations
Turmeric and a pinch of black pepper: Both are anti-inflammatory. Turmeric has a unique earthy flavor, and tastes yummy with the spicy ginger and black pepper.
Green tea or black tea bags: Either of these will add more flavor and antioxidants. They also contain caffeine - slightly less than coffee - and are therefore a nice option for breakfast to replace coffee.
Pinch of cayenne pepper: This will give the lemon and ginger tea a lovely spicy kick. It's great for congestion as the pepper will clear out your sinuses.
