Ingredients
This delightful non-alcoholic beverage requires just a few easy to find ingredients. Here's everything you need:
A few notes to consider about the ingredients:
- Watermelon - When choosing your watermelon, look for a fruit that is heavy for it's size and has dull skin.
- Strawberry - If fresh strawberries aren't available, feel free to swap in frozen instead! You can also opt to choose whatever berries suit you.
- Mint - I love the flavor of fresh mint when combined with watermelon. If you want to switch things up, basil would also be delicious!
- Lemon Juice - Whenever possible, opt for fresh lemons. To get the most juice from your fruit, give them a firm roll on the countertop prior to slicing. You can also play with the flavor of your drink and use lime juice instead! Just note that it will take several more limes than lemons to get enough juice.
- Honey - Feel free to swap in maple syrup or agave for a vegan version. You can also opt for a natural sugar alternative like monkfruit or stevia if you are worried about added sugars.
- Ginger - To peel a knob of ginger, put away your veggie peeler and pull out a spoon instead. Trust me!
- Water - Go for filtered water for the best flavor. If you prefer a sparkling watermelon strawberry lemonade, use just half the water called for in the blending step. After straining and pouring into glasses, top with sparkling water for a bit of fizz!
How to make Watermelon Strawberry Lemonade
To start with, add watermelon cubes, strawberries, ginger, mint, honey, and water in blender jar.
Blend until smooth.
Pass the juice mixture through fine mesh or sieve into the pitcher.
Add lemon juice and mix. Taste, adjusting with more honey if you prefer.
Put few ice cubes, few fresh mint and lemon slices in serving glasses, pour the prepared lemonade and serve chilled.
FAQs
Absolutely! I recommend allowing them to defrost before blending, though, otherwise straining the mixture will be more difficult.
Yes! Take 4 cups fresh strawberries and increase the amount of water, sugar or honey, and follow the same procedure for a more traditional strawberry lemonade recipe.
One serving of this Watermelon Strawberry Lemonade has 22 grams of carbohydrates. If you opt to swap the honey for a sugar free sweetener, that drops down to 13 grams of carbs. To further cut the carb count, I would recommend diluting the mix with a 50/50 split of lemonade and sparkling water for a refreshing spritzer.
Expert Tips
- Watermelon Strawberry Lemonade is best served fresh from the blender. If you'd like to get ahead with your preparations, cube the watermelon, hull the strawberries and juice your lemon ahead of time. Then all you have to do is blend and strain!
- If you are making a big batch of this summer beverage for a gathering, I recommend leaving a spoon or ladle nearby to give it a good stir before serving as it will tend to separate over time.
- If you'd like more fiber in your beverage, feel free to omit the straining step. It'll be more like a Strawberry Lemonade smoothie, but you'll retain the extra nutrition from the fruit pulp.
- Feel free to swap in lime juice for the lemon and make yourself a delightful Watermelon Strawberry Limeade instead. Yum!
